Q&A 5: Personal Experiences

Writer's picture: Lucas GuLucas Gu

Can you share a bit about your personal journey and how you ended up experiencing houselessness?

The names used for the second, third, fifth, sixth interviewed individuals have been altered at their request to protect their privacy. These responses remain authentic, with only minor modifications made for enhanced readability.

Mike: My journey here was that my luck wasn’t particularly good and I made some poor choices. But at the shelter it’s great so I don’t really mind staying there.

John: My story is probably similar to a lot of houseless people out there. Got addicted to drugs and lost all my money. It's tough, but I'm trying to find my way back.

Will: It's a long story for me. Family troubles, debts piling up, and then one thing led to another. Nobody plans to be homeless, it just happens.

D: My journey here started when I lost my job, and rent got too expensive. So I came to a shelter.

Walt: Became alcoholic so I was fired. Then my savings drained so that’s how I ended up being here.

Ben: Some bad decisions, and I lost most of my money. Bad choices I guess.
